Whisky hails originally from Scotland and is traditionally linked to another Scottish treasure - golf. Now it is about to be distilled in Bohemia. The Svach distillery has just opened in the restored farm Svachův dvůr located five kilometers from Český Krumlov.
The settlement with just eleven permanent residents has now become location of a unique project with the ambition to make history. The Glokner brewery at Svachův dvůr has been successfully making artisanal beers of highest quality for three years. The new distillery will exist in a synergic partnership making whisky and fruit brandies whose production has already begun. A partnership between an artisanal brewery and a distillery as well as whisky production is fairly unique in the Czech Republic.
The distiller's wash for whisky production will be made at the Glokner brewery according to proprietary recipe based on experience obtained directly in Scotland. The wash will then be transported just 50 meters to the Svach distillery, distilled on a unique distillation still and put into oak casks from Tennessee, Andalusia and from the Beskydy Mountains. The spirit will initially mature in 190 liter casks used previously for maturation of the famous Jack Daniel's bourbon for four years. This is ideal for whisky maturation and these casks are highly prized in Scotland itself.
Three years from now you can look forward to the first whisky tasting. However already in 2016 there will be fruit spirits on offer (pear brandy made from the best Williams pear variety, plum and apricot brandy) as well as liqueurs and an authentic beer brandy alongside the well- established beer .
Svachův dvůr resort is one of the few places in the Czech Republic offering a wide range of authentic recreational services. Apart from the newly opened distillery and the well-established beer brewery the resort also includes a hotel, a brewery restaurant with a large smokehouse offering gastronomy specials, Mladina spa and a 18-hole golf course.
