Top cultural and social experiences in Český Krumlov in 2008
Internationally respected gallery Egon Schiele Art Centre prepares together with Peking´s National Gallery(NAMOC) and National Gallery in Prague the exhibition Traditional Chinese Art. The exposition presents paintings, woodcuttings, calligraphies and shady theatre.
From February till April the unique premises of the ateliers of Egon Schiele Art Centre will house young Chinese artists, who will be working in the ateliers for two months and their works will be exhibited in this year´s season. Other expositions will be dedicated to Hermann Stenner´s work. Czech artists will be represented by the photographer Jindřich Štreit, Jiří Surůvka and Jan Autengruber.
Internatinal Gallery of Fine Art , located in the broad three floor premises of IVth castle courtyard, continues in the successful exhibition called "The Sculpture and the Jewel", which aims to introduce contemporary authorial works of Czech jewel in the context of 15th year of International exhibition of contemporary sculpture. The art project called "The new esthetics" presents in the Gallery of Czech culture the works of Czech and international artists in the categories of sculpture, painting, photography and design.
In Jun Český Krumlov museums will be enriched with a new attractive museum. Photoatelier Seidel Museum will open the exhibition of the completely preserved photoatelier of Josef Seidel, the king of Bohemian photographers, and his son František. The photoatelier in Linecká Street introduces not only unique photoes of the town and the region from the turn of 19th and the first half of 20th century, but also unique premises and the furnishings of the house where Seidel´s family lived.
The performance played in the revolving auditorium of the Southbohemian theatre which is located in the castle garden promises the unrepeatable experience. This year´s top theatre program is no doubt the performance of Verdi´s opera The Strength of the Fate (La forza del destino), organized in cooperation with Český Krumlov International Music Festival. Exept for the first night of 18th July there will be other five repeats. The singers of the Metropolitan Opera and other important opera houses will be the two starry international casts.
Within the framework of 17th yearof Český Krumlov International Music Festival , which will take place this year from 18th July till 23rd August there is prepared 27 extraordinary evenings based mostly on classical music including chamber concerts,recitals, organ concerts or performances in the castle Baroque Theatre.
Even this year ofChamber Music Festivaloffers attractive program for demanding visitors. The organizers prepare again the traditional grandiose reconstruction of the castle feast from 18th century, Baroque night in Český Krumlov castle ®. Chamber Music Festival will take place from 27th June till 6th July 2008.
In the year 2008 you can also look forward to many municipal festivals. On 5th February Basic Art School in Český Krumlov together with St. Agnes Secordary Art School prepare carnival procession in cooperation with some Krumlov artists. Let yourselves be encharmed by Krumlov in May. From 30rd April till 1st May come to celebrate coming spring,to build the maypole and to burn the witches. The town will get back to the Renaissance period from 20th till 22nd June during Five-Pettaled Rose Festival.
The town will open its gates to the handicapped people from 13 till 14th September. The aim of this five year´s Day with the Handicapped - The Day without Barriers is to make accessible chosen cultural monuments to the visitors with the physical, sight or aural or other handicap and enable them to see the places usually inaccessible or hardly accessible.
From 26th till 28th September the town will host the autumn Saint Wenceslas Celebrations. Saint Wenceslas is the patron of the Bohemian country and of the town of Český Krumlov and also the patron of good food and drinks. Local citizens and also tourists welcome their favourite program during Advent and Christmas in Český Krumlov, in which more and more Krumlov citizens get involved and which takes place from 30th November till 6th January 2009.
