FIVE-PETALLED ROSE CELEBRATIONS - 30TH YEAR
Between 17 and 19 June 2016 the town of Český Krumlov will return to the renaissance times and recall its most glorious era. It will remember the brilliance of the noble house of Rosenberg and their five-petalled rose sigil during the jubilee 30th year of the Five-petalled Rose Celebrations. There will be period music and performances by brave knights, fencers, wandering jugglers, musicians and comedians.
The organizers have a few new additions for the 30th year. Visitors will be able to experience the unique atmosphere of historic costumed processions at multiple occasions during all three renaissance days: A Sovereign´s Procession presenting the last Rosenbergs William and Petr Vok of Rosenberg will pass through the town on Saturday at 3 pm from the Castle through Latrán and Široká Street up to Svornosti Square. Later at 3.30 pm the Festive Historical Procession featuring more than 800 costumed figures - noblemen, burghers, musicians, jugglers, knights on horseback, craftsmen and other personages will pass through the town from Horní Street through Svornosti Square, Široká Street, Latrán to Pivovarská Street. The magical Nightly Fire Procession which always lights up the dark alleys and corners of the historical town centre with fire images and illumination magic will take place on both Friday and Saturday this year.
The fencing scene will premiere at a new location: the monastery garden of the newly restored Český Krumlov Monasteries. There will be spellbinding fencing duels and other fencing and theatre & fencing performances by various historical fencing ensembles.
A Living History area will be placed in the Municipal Park for second year in a row. Ensembles from Bohemia, Moravia and the German Burghausen will inhabit a military camp from Gothic period. The military camp will present demonstrations of camp life, historical crafts and various performances.
There will be more than 170 performances taking place on 10 stages ranging from medieval music to street theatre and fencing demonstrations as well as traditional historical marketplace in 1st Castle courtyard. The marketplace will offer traditional handicraft demonstrations and period goods. On Saturday visitors can attend the traditional night-time knightly tournament recreating the legend of the Division of the Roses and later enjoy the unique midnight festive fireworks from the southern Castle terraces, this time in a baroque form. On Sunday the Castle gardens in front of the Revolving Auditorium will provide the location for a Live Chess with Live Figurines performance on a 12 x 12-meter chessboard.
