Five-petalled Rose Celebrations 2018
Sounds of medieval music resonate through the historical center of the town and its narrow lanes are filled with various conjurers and swordsmen. The market men have put up their stalls and the packed tavern on the main square emanates singing as well as a delicious smell of roasted meat. The Five-Petalled Rose Celebrations take place from 22nd to 24th June in Český Krumlov.
This year Český Krumlov remember the 50th anniversary of the Five-petalled Rose Celebrations tradition which was established in 1968 and will recall the founding members of this tradition, Mr. Antonin Zwiefelhofer. Historical schedule of events across ten stages in the historical town center will present the very best of historical music, theatre, fencing and dance of mainly the Gothic and Renaissance periods. Included in the schedule will be juggling and fire-handling performances, historical games for both young and adult visitors, historical markets at the Castle and in town and naturally also traditional historical meals.
Similar to the first time, this year´s main historical procession will represent all ruling houses of Krumlov and their prominent representatives. The procession will thus present all historical periods from the founding of the House of Rosenberg to 19th century. Legend of the Division of the Roses will be portrayed within the procession as well as a group of commedia dell´arte characters from the Castle´s Masque Hall. A total of five processions will pass through the town, two of them fire processions. On Friday and Saturday nights the city will immerse itself in the magical atmosphere of the fire night. At different places, it is possible to admire the art of jugglers and artists who will show an unforgettable fire show. While Friday will offer a fire parade from the renaissance period, the Saturday fire procession will be gothic. The impressive night fire festivities will end on Saturday at midnight with a festive fireworks above the Český Krumlov Castle.
There will be composed historical programmes, live chess presentation, allegory flatboats on the Vltava River, but also recollections from the history of Krumlov Celebrations.
