A carnival festival will descend upon Český Krumlov between Saturday 25 and Tuesday 28 February. For the entire four days inhabitants and visitors can enjoy a wonderful spectacle of the coloured masque procession, travelling jugglers and musicians, good food and drinks but also traditional carnival entertainment.
The carnival will enter the town on Saturday 25 February with traditional Carnival celebrations which will fill the Brewery Restaurant Eggenberg with dancing and pleasant food smells. If you are fans of folk entertainment, you should not miss this celebration. You can look forward to pig-sticking delicacies or sausage roasting at Brewery Courtyard. Your children can have fun in the kid´s corner in restaurant Formanka Eggenberg. Music by the favourite local band „Nakřáplý šišky" will enhance the entire atmosphere. The Saturday programme will diversify Doudleban ensemble, whose members will walk at 2 pm from Municipal Theatre, through the town and end the processional route in the Brewery Restaurant Eggenberg where they will join the Carnival celebrations.
The traditional procession of pupils will lighten the town up on Tuesday 28 February at 4 pm. The procession starts from ZUŠ in Kostelní Street. Procession of pupils of the Artistic Elementary School (AES) in Český Krumlov, students of Secondary School of Arts and Industry of St. Agnes of Bohemia, along with citizens, artists and musicians of Český Krumlov will entertain the viewers with a short performance during each stop. Pupils of the field of art education ZUŠ are preparing 70 new masks on the topic of "The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters", which is inspired by the double anniversary of the Spanish painter Francisco Goya (2016 - 270 years since the birth of artist and 2017 - 220 years from the completion of the graphic cycle "Los Caprichos"). You can see a lot of masks from previous years too. Students of Secondary School of Arts and Industry of St. Agnes of Bohemia will demonstrate a scenic painting on the topic of graphic series Los Caprichos of Francisco Goya. An image, which will take several minutes, combines live performance with shadow play, projection and graphic solution of stage space.
This year we will mark exactly 10 years since the first procession in Český Krumlov was held. On that occasion you can visit an exhibition of photographs and artefacts from the last 10th year of "carnival procession". This exhibition will be located in the school gallery in the Monasteries of Český Krumlov during February.
