LINZ

LINZ ON THE DANUBE
About 70 km south of Český Krumlov we find LINZ, capital of the federal land of Upper Austria. The Old Town starts right by the river and offers many shops, cafés and numerous cultural monuments.

ART MUSEUM LENTOS
Works of the 19th and 20th century, by Andy Warhol, Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele among others. Special short-term exhibitions. Sezónní výstavy.

ARS ELECTRONICA CENTER
The modernist computer installation for experimenting, flight simulator for a sightseeing flight over Linz, in the Cave, 3-D worlds become reality.

CASTLE MUSEUM
The museum presents Upper Austria’s history of art and culture since the middle ages.

Visitors may take advantage of The Linz Museum Card and visit the above sites plus other 9 museums to be found in Linz for 12 EUR.

There are more tourist attractions in the town to enjoy e.g.:

BOAT TRIPS
In July and August daily from 8.30 pm, evening cruises along the Danube (lasting about 90 mins.). Return trips to Passau and Vienna.

GUIDED TOUR OF THE TOWN
With a qualified guide: from May to September, daily at 10.30 am starting from Tourist Information, for groups, anytime by arrangement.

THE PÖSTLINGBERG EXPERIENCE
By Pöstlingberg-Bahn Mountain Railway we depart for the shrine of (Wallfahrtsbasilika), with a panoramic view of Linz and towards the Alps. You can rumble through caves on the the Dragon Express of the Grottenbahn. At the half-way point there is Linz ZOO (Tiergarten) with many species of animals and the Streichelzoo where you can stroke the animals.

25-minute round trip through the town on a yellow sightseeing train.

PASSAU - THE TOWN WHERE THREE RIVERS MEET: DANUBE, INN AND ILZ
Passau is a town with a more than 2000 years history as the seat of bishops. Nowadays, Passau is the modern industrial and cultural centre of Lower Bavaria. 53. FESTSPIELE EUROPÄISCHE WOCHEN PASSAU
(PASSAU EUROPEAN WEEK FESTIVAL)

Motto: Sun, Moon, Stars - nature, art, religion
Operas, operettas, oratorios, concerts, drama and music performances are heard in the most astonishing interiors of churches, castles and music halls of Passau, Lower Bavaria, Upper Austria and Bohemia.

ST. STEPHAN CATHEDRAL (ST.-STEPHANS-DOM)
The cathedral was built in gothic times and during the Baroque period was rebuilt by well-known Italian masters. Besides its architecture, its frescos, pulpit and modern altar, it also houses the world‘s largest organ. Frequent organ concerts are the main attraction of this cathedral.

PILGRIM CHURCH MARIAHILF (WALLFAHRTSKLOSTER MARIAHILF)
321 steps of prayer take you right to the church entrance door. From the church, visitors may enjoy a wonderful view of the Italian side of Passau at its best.

MUSEUM VESTE OBERHAUS
Oberhaus is the museum of culture and history. The displays show ordinary life under the rule of lords´ bishops, a typical day at the castle, work of guilds and craftsmen, salt trading and the like.

GLASS MUSEUM (PASSAUER GLASSMUSEUM)
This museum with its 30.000 pieces of Czech glassworks is considered the largest of its kind worldwide. The displays present different periods of Czech glass-making.

MODERN ART GALLERY (MUSEUM MODERNER KUNST)
This museum presents works of the 20th and 21st century. Regular temporary exhibitions of internationally recognized artists.

Three river voyage („Dreiflüsse“ - Stadtrundfahrt), sightseeing cruises to Bavaria and Austria, night party cruises, specialized cruises and two-day cruises to Vienna.

CITY CENTRE GUIDED TOUR
licensed guides, from May to October daily at 2.30 p.m., weekdays also at 10.30 a.m., from November to March weekends and holidays at 1.00 p.m. (Meeting point at „Königsdenkmal“ at „Domplatz“ Square), a single tour takes 1 hour.

ST. STEPHAN CATHEDRAL GUIDED TOUR
From May to October daily at 12.30 p.m. after daily organ concert, from November to March on weekdays at 12.00 p.m. (Meeting point inside the cathedral), a single tour takes app. 30 to 40 minutes.

ORGAN CONCERTS
From May to October on weekdays from 12.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., on Thursdays also at 7.30 p.m. except state holidays, during Advent also on weekdays from 12.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
