is the modern industrial and cultural centre of Lower Bavaria. Apart from numerous museums,
galleries, historical sights and cultural events, a boat cruise on the Danube River is an

53. FESTSPIELE EUROPÄISCHE WOCHEN PASSAU
(PASSAU EUROPEAN WEEK FESTIVAL)

Motto: Sun, Moon, Stars - nature, art, religion
Operas, operettas, oratorios, concerts, drama and music performances are heard in the most
astonishing interiors of churches, castles and music halls of Passau, Lower Bavaria,
Upper Austria and Bohemia.
ST. STEPHAN CATHEDRAL (ST.-STEPHANS-DOM)
The cathedral was built in gothic times and during the Baroque period was rebuilt by well-known
Italian masters. Besides its architecture, its frescos, pulpit and modern altar, it also houses the world‘s
largest organ. Frequent organ concerts are the main attraction of this cathedral.
PILGRIM CHURCH MARIAHILF (WALLFAHRTSKLOSTER MARIAHILF)
321 steps of prayer take you right to the church entrance door. From the church, visitors may
enjoy a wonderful view of the Italian side of Passau at its best.
MUSEUM VESTE OBERHAUS
Oberhaus is the museum of culture and history. The displays show ordinary
life under the rule of lords´ bishops, a typical day at the castle, work of guilds and craftsmen,
salt trading and the like.
GLASS MUSEUM (PASSAUER GLASSMUSEUM)
This museum with its 30.000 pieces of Czech glassworks is considered the largest of its
kind worldwide. The displays present different periods of Czech glass-making.
MODERN ART GALLERY (MUSEUM MODERNER KUNST)
This museum presents works of the 20th and 21st century. Regular temporary exhibitions of
internationally recognized artists.
