Baroque Arts Festival Český Krumlov 2017
Baroque Arts Festival Český Krumlov has been enjoying an increased popularity among European fans of historic music. The sold-out performances and positive reviews attest to the Festival qualities. The 10th Festival will take place from 15 to 17 September 2017.
The highlight of the 10th Barock Arts Festival will be the modern age premiere of a baroque opera La Didone by Antonio Boroni taking place in the unique Castle Baroque Theatre in Český Krumlov. The opera will be performed by first class baroque orchestra Hof-Musici and his experienced soloist (Jana Dvořáková, Veronika Mráčková Fučíková, Pavel Valenta).
After Boroni's comic opera L'Amore in Musica, which the Hof-Musici ensemble performed in 2015, the ensemble shall perform this dramma per musica by Boroni in its endeavor to contribute to a deeper understanding of this unjustly neglected composer:
Antonio Boroni (1738-1792) is one of today's unjustly forgotten composers of the 18th century. In his day, he was a very acknowledged master whose renown reached beyond Italy. A native of Rome, studied with famous Padre Martini and at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples. He met with his first successes in Venice, where he presented six of his operas from 1763 to 1766. In 1767-1768 he was maestro di cappella of the Italian opera company of the impresario Giuseppe Bustelli in the Prague Kotzen Theatre. He was then appointed court Kapellmeister in Dresden (1768-1770) and Stuttgart (1770-1777). Later, until his death in 1792, he held the prestigious post of Kapellmeister for St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
Boroni composed and performed his opera La Didone in Prague in 1768. The only performance afterwards is documented the same year in Dresden, where the Prague Bustelli's opera company appeared regulary.
There will be other memorable concerts taking place during the 10th Festival. Visitors can also attend the popular baroque fireworks and baroque illumination in the Castle gardens.
