A Summer of Culture In Český Krumlov

The summer sun has already warmed the little streets of Krumlov, boats sail down gently the Vltava river , the summer gardens of pubs and restaurants invite for a relaxation under the Castle tower and music of various genres fills the town. The summer in Krumlov is in full swing and you are invited to share it.

Mezinárodní hudební festival

The Chamber Music Festival will open the month of July and the Ancient Music Festival will follow on 8 July. The Ancient Music Festival will bring you music from the Baroque or Romantic periods but also songs from the time of pharaoh Ramesse II. or love songs from a musical manuscript from the Lobkowicz collection. Music of times long past will fill the Monastery church or the Egon Schiele Art Centre gallery. The longest music festival in the Czech Republic will be festively opened by a performance by the world-famous tenor José Cura on 16 July: 19th International Music Festival Český Krumlov will offer melodies from famous American and British musicals, Don Giovanni opera directed by Jiří Menzel, musical and gastronomic experience in the shape of a Mexican evening and many others. Many famous musicians such as Štěpán Rak, James Morrison, Pavel Šporcl or Gidon Kremer will perform not only in the impressive areas of the Krumlov Castle but also in the Brewery gardens or in the St. Vitus Church.

The varied musical offering will be complemented by concerts in the Ántré theatrical club, in the U Bejka pub or around Český Krumlov. The the Neumarkt singing choir will perform in the Vyšší Brod Monastery (4 July) and Rožmberk nad Vltavou will come alive with the České hrady cultural festival (29 July). On Dívčí Kámen you can listen to a pilgrimage concert performed by Hana Blochová (10 July). Lastly, you may wish to attend the musical festival Červenání in the Červený dvůr sanatorium (24 July).

The Revolving Auditorium in the Castle gardens is revolving also in July and offers a popular comedy A Servant of Two Masters, Der Freischütz Opera or A Midsummer Night's Dream ballet performance. The Revolving Auditorium will also stage a baby-punk cabaret performance Punch in a Roll. You can also view performances outside of the town. The Zlatá Koruna Monastery will be the backdrop for a theatrical play The Mammoth Hunters (12 - 18 July) and the fresh DAMU graduates will present a Shakespearean comedy Much Ado for Nothing (19 - 23 July). Another Shakespearean comedy, As You Like It, can be viewed on the Rožmberk Castle (27 - 29 July). Here you can also experience the Unusual Night of Petr Vok or a swordplay match by the historical swordplay group Brothers of the Rose. Others performances on offer are the KINO grotesque (5 July) on Dívčí Kámen, 5th opening anniversary celebrations at Vítkův hrádek (3 July) and kids and adults alike will look forward to the traditional fair in Horní Planá (9 July) or in Chvalšiny (17 July).

You can also pleasantly spend your spare time in Český Krumlov by visiting many interesting museums and galleries. The summer weather is ideal for sports, and so do not hesitate to visit the nature around the town on foot, by bike or on a horseback. A fast downhill ride on a scooter from the Kleť Mountain or a raft sail through the historical center is bound to be an unforgettable experience. Both beginners and golf professional alike can practice their swings on the Svachova Lhotka golf course and tennis players can play their sport on 4 outside and 3 covered courts.
