Entertainment is guaranteed in Český Krumlov in June. There are many events planned for this month, on top of interesting museum exhibitions, gallery exhibitions and town tours.
The Revolving Auditorium will start turning again after a break of several months on 4 June. Visiting this theatre under the stars guarantees an unforgettable experience. An opera, drama or ballet performance becomes quite unique and there is a rich programme to choose from this season: from the Shakespearian drama Macbeth, through the popular comedy by Goldoni Servant of Two Masters, to Mozart's famous opera Don Giovanni and many others.
The newly reconstructed Regional Museum will also open its gates. Starting from 17 June you can visit among others an exhibition on called Historical Maps - Bohemia, introducing maps of the country from 16th to 19th centuries.
On Friday 11 June Český Krumlov will see the launch of an entertainment and educational tour through Czech and Moravian towns prepared by the Czech UNESCO Association. The event is called "Kdybykulich 2010" and is subtitled "UNESCO is bringing you a summertime avalanche of inspiration". The subtitle hints that winter will make its appearance in the middle of summer. Children and adults alike will be able to make a snowman, become warm in the "U Podivína" pub or fish for a Christmas carp. The evening programme will be filled with concerts and also with a theatrical performance tailor-made for this event called "The Philosophers' Stone or Smart Guys' Rock". This performance is filled with modern dance, light shows and big-screen projections. Bedtime reading will conclude the programme.
During the next weekend, i.e. from 18 to 20 June, Český Krumlov will once again wear the Renaissance cloak and commemorate the fame of the clans of the Five-petalled Rose. This year's Five-petalled Rose Celebrations programme includes the popular costumed procession, festive ceremony, Gothic tournament, night of fire opened by a nightly procession or live chess.
The Chamber Music Festival will let you experience times long passed. The festival will be opened on 25 June by the magnificent Baroque night on the Český Krumlov. You can also look forward to the organ and trumpet tones, but also to guitar and flute tones during the Gran Duetto Concertante concert, to a rock concert of Radim Hladík and Blue Effect or the a concert of Gabriela Demeterová. The festival will also offer many other experiences and not just of the musical kind.
Český Krumlov will also host the 42nd year of the South Bohemian festival Concertina Praha. The "Victory Concert" performed on 21 June in Český Krumlov with pieces by Bach, Janáček and others will be part of this festival.
The culture does not stop in Český Krumlov, it continues with regional events. You can enjoy spiritual music in the impressive surroundings of the Vyšší Brod Monastery on 5 June. Proceeds from this charity concert called In Paradisum will go towards the renewal of the monastery. You can also visit the accordion players' convention in Vyšší Brod (12 June) or the festive opening of the Abbatial Track (9 June). The little town of Frymburk will host its traditional town festivities on 11 June. In June you will have a chance to meet Petr Vok not only in Český Krumlov but also on the Rožmberk Castle during the nightly tour (27 June). This varied regional offering is completed by a multicultural youth festival Cihelna-vystupovat in Chlum near Křemže (25 to 26 June).
Do you prefer sports? Český Krumlov has a lot to offer to you too. The river Vltava, flowing through the town is an ideal place for a canoe or raft trip. The beautiful nature around the town is an ideal backdrop for trips on foot or bike trips but also for horseback riding trips. The Kleť Mountain with its viewing tower and an observatory is a popular touristic destination. The trip back from the mountain can be made using scooters. And finally, your handicap can be improved on the nearby golf course in Svachova Lhotka.
