Every year in September the town of Český Krumlov has been participating in an international event aimed at the general public called European Heritage Days, also referred to as EHD. During this time many interesting historical buildings, monuments, areas and spaces open their doors to visitors, including many that are not usually accessible to public or where access is limited. European Heritage Days is an event of Europe-wide importance aimed at education and discovery of cultural and historical monuments. This event has the following goals: to improve public awareness of other cultures, to protect the cultural heritage and finally, to pay respect to all cultures regardless how big or small.
This year’s European Heritage Days have a national topic – Monuments in the landscape and the landscape itself as a monument. This gives us an opportunity to take a fresh look at various historical monuments and the architecture, as a quiet guide of our existence and a discreet creator, shaping our perceptions and our awareness of culture.
There is a new addition to what’s on offer in Český Krumlov this year: the newly opened Museum Photo Studio Seidel in Linecká Street where you will be transported to an atmosphere of last century’s 20’s and 30’s. Special guided tours will be available for 17 and 20 September.
There are other attractions ready to throw their doors open to visitors during the weekend of 13 and 14 September: The Monastery of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Cross Chapel on the Cross Mountain, the Červený Dvůr Chateau and last but not least also the Český Krumlov State Castle and Chateau.
