The exhibition of Josef and František Seidel and Heinricha Melzer´s works can be seen in Palace Museum in the Austrian town of Freistadt. The exposition called The Photographic Memory which was initiated on 23rd June will be open every day including the holidays and weekends till 28th October 2007.
The presentation focuses Josef Seidel´s work in the comparison to Heinrich Melzer, the Freistadt photographer. The exhibition aims to mediate the creativity, variety and work of both of these photographers not only from the photographic point of view, but also political and social conditions both photographers experienced.
The exhibition in Mühlviertel Schlossmuseum Freistadt concentrates on one main topic: The historical photography in South Bohemia and in Mühlviertel. There are several reasons. Firstly, since World War I. many photographers worked there and the second reason is of course the gorgeous discovery of photographic records of the Seidel family in Český Krumlov.
Both photographers´ work is similar in an interesting way. Both made photoes abroad. Seidel made photoes in Mühlviertel and Melzer made photoes in South Bohemia. Common photo exhibition in the palace museum in Freistadt presents both great similarity and different aspects of their work.
The exposition contains photoes of one of the most important contemporary Austrian art photographers Prof. Gerhard Trumler. This significant photographer considered to be doyen of Austrian monochrome photography created a unique documentation of František Seidel´s habitation and work.
The partners of the exhibition are Český Krumlov Development Fund, Photoatelier Seidel Museum, Upper Austrian Regional Museum and Freistadt Palace Museum.
