International Music Festival Český Krumlov

This year, the Festival will be celebrating it’s sweet sixteen, and for five weeks from the 20th of July to the 25th of August, you will have the opportunity to partake in the wealth of 24 concerts offered. The most discerning listeners will be pleased with the number of musical genres offered, ranging from gothic to modern works of the 21st century.

We’ll begin the summer of 2007 on Friday, the 20th of July on the southern terraces of Český Krumlov Castle with the famous Carmina Burana by Carl Orff accompanied by the Festival’s resident orchestra, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as Kuhn’s Mixed Choir and Kuhn’s Children’s Chorus, along with soloists Tracy Dahl, Christopher Pfund and Richard Zeller from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Spain’s Manuel Hernandez Silva will conduct.

The Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra will play three times during the Festival, and your second opportunity to catch them will be on Saturday, the 22nd of July, when Israeli conductor Amos Talmon will accompany distinguished violinists Joo Young Oh from South Korea and Pavel Šporcl from the Czech Republic.

The last opportunity to see the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra will be at the Festival’s Closing Gala concert on Saturday, the 25th of August, which will take place, for the first time ever during the history of the Festival, at the rotating theatre in the Castle Gardens. Take this fantastic opportunity to see opera greats from New York’s Metropolitan Opera and Milan’s La Scala such as Jeanine Thames, Annamaria Popescu and Allan Glassman under direction of Austrian conductor Gottfried Rabl.

Back by popular demand, we have prepared four experimental opera concerts in the original Baroque Theatre at the Český Krumlov Castle on the 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th of August.

As in earlier years, we will feature evenings filled with music, good food, and drink. This year, you can look forward to French Night on the 28th of July and Irish Night on the 11th of August. The excellent, Grammy Award-winning jazz group, New York Voices, will play for us on Saturday, the 4th of August in the Brewery Gardens. Popular rock band, Čechomor, will return to Český Krumlov on Saturday, the 18th of August.

Part of the Festival offerings will include a number of recitals and concerts or concert laureates from prestigious international music competitions and organ recitals in the churches in and around Český Krumlov. On the 19th of August, in the parish church of Kájov, listeners will travel back in time to 13th century Paris with Schola Gregoriana Pragensis‘s modern premiere of Ars Antiqua.
