St. Wenceslas Celebrations Filled with Folklore, Good Food, Beer, Wine and Experiences

The last September weekend in Český Krumlov traditionally belongs to events celebrating the coming autumn - the 19th St. Wenceslas Celebrations and 20th International Folklore Festival will take place in the town between 25 and 28 September. This is homage to St. Wenceslas, patron of Bohemia but also of the town of Český Krumlov, of winemakers, beer brewers as well as celebration of state holiday of the Czech Republic. There will be traditional events and many new additions too.

International Folklore Festival

Many folklore dance ensembles will visit the town to participate in the International Folklore Festival. They will perform on the main scene located at Svornosti Square but there will also be short spontaneous dance performance throughout the historical town center.

Enjoying the Celebrations with Children

Families with children can join one of the artisanal workshops with craft activities or visit the fair at the Monasteries Český Krumlov. The weekend at the monasteries will be filled with street artists, jugglers, musicians, and fairy tale performances. A day of games and contests for children is planned for Saturday at the Brewery Gardens.

On Sunday there will be artistic, creative and storytelling workshops at Prádelna. Both children and their parents will have lots of fun. A Day of Mammoth Hunters at the Cave of Dobrkovice brings adventure and a chance to experience the life of cave-dwellers from tens of thousands of years ago. Discounted tickets are available at the Fairy Tale House, Moldavite Museum and the Graphite Mine.

Fair, Celebrations of Beer and Wine

A traditional St. Wenceslas fair will take place on the Svornosti Square for all four days of the Festival. On Saturday, golden brew lovers can attend the Brewery Celebrations and taste the special St. Wenceslas light beer, visit the brewery, and listen to music by local bands. Saturday will belong to not only beer but also to wine: the Garden Wine Tasting at the monastery gardens brings the opportunity to tase over sixty wine samples from Bohemia, Moravia and from abroad.

Tours of Town and Its Monuments

The event schedule includes the popular Saturday Evening of the Open Doors of Museums and Galleries, offering free entry to Egon Schiele Art Center, Regional Museum or Museum Photo Studio Seidel.

You can also view the historical town center from the waters Vltava River without getting wet by taking one of the regular flatboat sightseeing tours. Vivaldi himself will sail down Krumlov on Saturday, played by South Bohemian Philharmonics performing the Four Seasons on a flatboat floating between the Beneš and Barber Bridges.

Krumlov autumn festival bears the name of our most distinguished patron and so the last Saturday weekend will also include the traditional meeting of all persons named Václav (Wenceslas) as well as a festive concert concluded with the hymn St. Wenceslas and a presentation of the Schwarzenberg guard.

What is the best souvenir of Český Krumlov? How about your own period-style photograph for your family album taken in the unique Museum Photo Studio Seidel.
