The opening of the large complex of medieval monasteries is set to be the most significant event of the year. Another jewel from the "Krumlov Treasury"- namely the Krumlov monasteries - will be unveiled on 5 September 2015 as part of the national opening of the European Heritage Days. There will be an attractive schedule of events and organized tours catering to a large spectrum of visitors such as fans of the medieval history, gothic art and literature lovers or visitors interested in the everyday lives of the Poor Clare nuns. Guests may attend creative artisanal workshops or participate in specialized seminars on period music, dance or fine art. All visitors to the monasteries will take part in an ancient story while discovering new knowledge and have a good time as well.
The wooden altar of St. Anne by master carver IP will be installed in the Castle chapel as a new addition of the 1st Castle viewing tour. This masterpiece of immense value has often been described as a miracle of wood carving. The Educational Residence Centre construction project will kick off on the 1st Castle courtyard. Lecture rooms as well as accommodation facilities for students will be constructed at the location of the former Hall of Columns. This will become a unique educational destination for students of subjects such as culture, monument restoration, history, environment etc. The Centre will offer facilities for lectures, accommodation and boarding on one spot. The construction project is set to conclude by 30 April 2016. Construction works on re-opening of the so called Mountain Garden will continue throughout this year. The Garden Studio of Egon Schiele may be small in size but large in its significance and forms an antidote to the massive monastery complex. It will open to general public on 17 June 2015. The painter Egon Schiele resided in this small garden house located on a rock by the Vltava River for several months in 1911. Its inspiring atmosphere will appeal to art lovers and general visitors as well. Guests may view the small flat furnished with replicas of Schiele´s furniture and the attic studio. The previously inaccessible terraces will offer visitors a place to sit down and savour the mysterious atmosphere in the knowledge that this spot was once inhabited and loved by one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
