Town History

Origin of the Name :
At the beginning it was Menholt, then Maynholthov and around 1364 Maynatisslag. Until not long ago, the commonly used name Meinetschlag evolved from the original Meinholtsslag - Meinholtova glade. The Czech name of the town was first Manholty which evolved into Malonty.

The first mention of the town is from 1360. The founders of Malonty were German colonists who had been called by the lords of Micalovice from upper Austria to Bohemia to clear the forests. The settlers established two glass-works in town, and even had two houses with the right to brew beer. In 1456 Malonty belonged to Jakub Czandl. On June 17, 1483, Peter Wok von Rosenberg began to levy taxes from the village. At the time, Malonty also owned the settlements Meziříčí and Jaroměř. In 1611 Malonty passed into the ownership of the Švamberks, then in 1620 to the Counts Buquoy.

Local Historical structures

Church of St. Bartholemew - originally the gothic chapel of St. Kateřina founded in the early 14th century. In 1400 a presbytary was added, at the end of the 15th century double-bodied, and in 1887 a new sacristy. The bells are marked 1423 and 1507.

Natur

In der Richtung Pohorská Ves gibt es das Gebiet Rapotická březina, eine Torffundstätte mit bedrohten Pflanzen. Dieses Gebiet wurde zum Naturschutzgebiet vorgeschlagen.
