The first pebble in the mosaic of June experiences will be a relative novelty - Open Air Photo Festival. Its second edition will take place during the weekend of June 5th - 7th. Open Air Photo Festival is a celebration of photography, a real festival held over the weekend, during which will attending photographers not let their cameras out of their hands. It is ‚the only festival, where really everybody takes pictures‘. Whether you are a beginner, amateur of professional photographer, unlimited photo opportunities are awating all of you in breathtaking Český Krumlov. Meetings with interesting personalities from the Czech Republic and abroad are in the festival's programme, you will have the chance to try technical miracles and learn various tricks from professional photographers. Inspirational exhibitons, international photographers‘ meetings and workshops and photo opportunities from street-art to acts - all this only this weekend.
June 11th will see a glimpse of another of permanent stones of the cultural mosaic, the famous Revolving Theatre. It is on this day the Krumlov's theatre season of South Bohemian Theatre opens with a new play - a detective comedy ‚The Hound of the Baskervilles‘. The most famous case of Sherlock Holmes was directed by theatre and film director Petr Zelenka. English fog in the castle gardens, swamps and rampaging beast of a devil dog running around the park after dark... The star of this upcoming show is Karel Roden.
The Rose of Krumlov will shine in full bloom during the Summer Solstice. The magnificent 29th Five-Petalled Rose Celebrations is scheduled for 19th to 21st June. The main theme of the programme is an event from 1555, when Wilhelm von Rosenberg merged the two separate settlements - Latrán and the Old town. In the spirit of the Renaissance, awakened for three days by hubbub of knightly tournaments, craft fairs, mediaeval music, street theater and sword fights, a highlight of the festival will take place with a historical costumed procession, attended by 750 performers. The festival will also feature the traditional fireworks display that will dress the city into a magnificent cloak full of magical lights, shining stars and nebulous secrets.
Renessaince Rosenberg festivities will be followed by the Chamber Music Festival the following weekend with an extraordinary programme in the world famous authentic castle theatre. Festival will open on the 28th June with a ‚Baroque Pantomime‘ - an original theatrical performance inspired by Commedia dell'Arte with the music of Antonio Vivaldi. It will be followed by the spectacular ‚Baroque Night at the Castle of Český Krumlov‘ (June 29th), which will take place in the most sought after locations of the Krumlov castle (the theater, the Mirror and the Masquerade Halls, Courtyard, Passage of the Na Plášti bridge) and will culminate in the castle gardens. Do not miss the impressive baroque illuminations by many hundreds of candles and lanterns, including reconstruction of period fireworks. Festival program will offer performances almost every day until July 7th, and will conclude with a concert by Duo Siempre Nuevo in the Masquerade Hall of the castle.
