FIVE-PETALLED ROSE CELEBRATIONS 2013, 21 – 23 JUNE 2013

27th year of historical celebrations reminiscing the renaissance period and the reign of the last Rosenbergs; recipient of the Event of the Year 2010 Award in the Czech Republic.

THIS YEAR´S TOPIC
This year we celebrate an important town anniversary relating to the year 1253 when the name of Krumlov was first mentioned on a charter of Otakar, the Margrave of Moravia and Duke of Austria and Styria – the future Bohemian King Přemysl Otakar II. Vítek of Krumlov (Wittigo De Chrumbenowe) is noted as one of the witnesses of this charter.

We also refer to the year 1573 when William of Rosenberg visited Poland as an ambassador of the Emperor Maxmillian II where he was offered the Polish throne.

This is an exhibition of never realized projects linked to the region of Southern Bohemia and Upper Austria. We have a surprisingly large amount of plans for both smaller and huge projects which for various reasons were never realized. Who were these visionaries, engineers, idealists, overly ambitious men of power and arrogant ideologists? What were they planning to create in the Czech-Austrian border region and why their ideas were not realized? Look for answers at the “What If…” exhibitions. Admission to exhibitions separately charged.

Krless – a legendary band of medieval music focusing on European music from 13th – 15th centuries, i.e. from mature medieval period. In their music you can hear echoes of medieval spirituality, a dancing feast in a tavern, Oriental sensuality as well as contemporary rock drive. Krless has been interpreting medieval music in a manner of medieval crossover. Do not expect a slavish reconstruction, living history-style or an attempt at “truly authentic” imitation. Krless has been transforming medieval music with style, flair and energy reflecting the expectations of today’s audience. Medieval period music by Krless is a mixture of authentic music, present time folk, folklore, blues, rock and Jewish and Arabic melodies.

BraAgas band can be classified under the popular “world music” label. The band performs folk songs from all over Europe including Spain, Occitan, Galicia, Sephardic Jews songs, Scandinavia and the Balkans. BraAgas have a unique style mainly due to sophisticated vocals, an original instrumental compositions and lively rhythms. They have received numerous accolades such as winning the 5th Colours Talents Competition or an “Angel” award in 2009 in the best world music album category (for their album “Tapas”). BraAgas are often seen and heard performing European medieval songs at various historically themed events.
