..Štěpán Rak - guitar

Dates From - To
09.11.2013   (Sa)   Order 18:00

Štěpán Rak

World reknown critic John Botton has written the following about Prof. Štěpán Rak: There are bad guitarists, average guitarists, good guitarists and excellent guitarists in the world of classical guitar, and then there is Štěpán Rak!

Prof. Štěpán Rak has founded the guitar major at AMU (Academy of Musical Arts Prague) in 1982 and has been awarded the title of University Professor in 2000 and thus became the first professor of guitar in history. His 5-finger technique which he teaches worldwide has become legendary, as well as his so called ‚Rak’s Tremolo Etherna‘. He met Prof. Štěpán Urban (1913 – 1974) and thanks to this event he also began composing. His works include virtually all instrumental combinations, starting from solo guitar all the way through to symphony orchestra compositions.

Štěpán Rak celebrated his 60th birthday in 2005 and has decided to give praise to his great teacher and friend prof. Stepan Urban with a piece dedicated to his memory. Prof. Urban founded its own independent major of guitar playing at the State Conservatory in Prague and prof. Štěpán Rak has fulfilled his last wish – teaching this major at University level.

One of the biggest legends of 21st century guitar, John W. Duarte (1919 – 2004) has written about Štěpán Rak: ‚ L. van Beethoven dreamt about a guitar as a small orchestra. The one person who not only fulfilled, but exceeded this dream, is Štěpán Rak.‘

Their music leaves the listener feeling as if he/she went along with the players, their flow of emotions and experiences, and became a direct part of their inspiration. In addition to their own compositions, the trio also focuses on the interpretation of other well-known, not only jazz songs.
