This municipal historical celebration themed around Renaissance and the rule of the last Rosenbergs, now in its 25th year, has received the Event of the Year 2010 Award from the Czech Tourism agency. This year´s theme is inspired by an event from June 1611 when Petr Vok of Rosenberg successfully protected Southern Bohemia from an invasion of a Passau army. The Celebrations are part of the Rosenberg Year 2011 project.

Alan Stivell is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Brittany and the most famous Celtic music performer playing the Celtic harp. He will perform together with his his band as the guest of honour of the 25th Five-petalled Rose Celebrations in Český Krumlov in the gardens near the twisting Vltava river beneath the Krumlov Castle. This place used to by inhabited by the Celts in the past. This exceptional joining of the Celtic music concert by Alan Stivell and the Five-petalled Rose Celebrations lends a new dimension the celebration of the town´s history. After the concert closes, the visitors may visit the evening historical programme or let their recent experience resonate in the night time Krumlov. The band BRAN will perform as front runners. Please note: special entry fee! Concert takes place under any weather conditions. No photography and usage of audio visual equipment permitted.

Castle rock, or Medieval street big beat performed by the musical festival Porta 2010 winners playing historical folk rock with Celtic roots. The band performs poetry of Medieval authors with music. The music is original and is inspired by music from the break of Medieval and modern ages. To support an authentic atmosphere the band uses pieces or parts by masters from the given periods. The melody with a Medieval element using replicas of Medieval musical instruments is processed through a rock foundation. The result is an original musical style, really interesting in its richness of sound and rhythm.

BraAgas band plays the popular “world music” genre. The band´s repertoire is made of folk songs from the entire Europe – Spain, Occitan, Galicia, Sefard Jews, Scandinavia and the Balkans. What makes BraAgas unique are complex vocals, interesting instruments and rhythms full of temperament.
The list of their biggest successes include for example the first place in the 5th Colours Talents competitions or an “Angel” award for the best world music album of the year 2009 (awarded for their album “Tapas”). BraAgas often perform on events with historical themes with songs of Medieval Europe.
*8.15 pm Krless
A concert of Prague-based band which became a true legend in the interpretation of Medieval music. The band plays European music from 13th to 15th centuries, i.e. from the High Medieval ages. Their music reflect the Medieval spirituality, tavern dancing as well as Oriental sensuality and the rock drive of modern world. Krless interprets Medieval music through the Medieval crossover style. Do not expect a living history reconstruction or an “authentic Medieval” interpretation. Krless magnanimously transform the Medieval music, lending it the energy and spirit as expected by listeners of today. They do not shy away from blending different musical styles: Medieval ages portrayed by Krless are a blend of original ancient music, present folk, blues, rock as well as Jewish and Arabic music.
*9.15 pm Fencing - Noble Knightly Art
This will be the festive ending to a series of intense seminars lasting all year long focused on the Renaissance fencing school of the Spanish masters culminating in a public exhibition. There will be closings exams of new members of the AKA – Academy of Knightly Arts. The practical exams proving their skills acquired through regular year long training will be taken by members of AKA Prague, AKA Tábor and AKA České Budějovice. A public training hour will be part of the exams. Lectors and choreographs: Petr Koza, Petr Barvík and Petr Nůsek A.R.G.O.

“Don Šajn” is based on a Spanish 14th century legend about Don Juan, a famous seducer of ladies. “Johanes Doctor Faust” is based on a 16th century book for “peoples ´enjoyment” about a learned man who sold his soul to the devil. This performance offers an entertaining fresh look on two archetypal stories of European literature. Adaptation: J. V. Dvořák, P. Vašíček. Direction, scene and marionettes: T. Dvořák. Music: J. The authors take us back to the late Renaissance and Mannerism periods with a completely fresh angle. They have been intrigued by the nobility’s interest in astronomy and astrology as well as mythical themes and hermetic learning and their reflection in everyday lives. Authors drew into abundant collections of Italian masters Caroso, Negri or Ercolo Santucci whose dances had been popular at all European courts and used their works for symbol play – you can expect planets recognized in this period and popular Greek gods.
