It is not necessary to persuade anybody about the attractivities offered in Český Krumlov. However, Český Krumlov and its historic sights, museums, galleries and other touristic attractions are inaccesible for the disabled. Sinuous, narrow streets covered with uneven pavement of stone,architectural treasures with many stairs and much roughness make for the disabled many barriers which are difficult to get through both in movement and orientation. We are aware of the fact that it is impossible to clear away these obstacles and that nobody can make Český Krumlov the town without barriers, friendly for all handicapped people. In spite of this we think that we are able to do something for the handicapped to enable them to visit the sights and admire the beauty of the historical heritage. If we cannot change the town we can make the town accesible for the disabled temporarily. Therefore in 2004 there was an idea to prepare an event called "Disability Day – Day without Barriers ". According to our visitors´acceptance of the event we think that the event was very successful and therefore we organize it again this year. The point of the event "Disability Day – Day without Barriers " is to make the part of the world natural and cultural heritage of UNESCO the town of Český Krumlov and its chosen cultural monuments accessible for the disabled visitors by the assistants and temporary ways at least for one day, this year for a weekend.
Accessibility by road:
The main car park will be P1 car park in Jelení Garden bellow the castle (see navigation and orientation system of the town). Car park is free for the registered visitors who will obtain parking card at the car park entry. The visitors coming by the train arriving at Český Krumlov at 9:51 will be taken by two low-rise buses to the car park where the information tent will be located. The buses will transport people from P1 car park to the Riding Hall where the castle tour will start.

Within the framework of the event II. castle tour will be made accessible. The castle arranges guides in Czech and provides admission free for the registered visitors and their assistants. Special tour contains: Truss passage, picture gallery, abigail´s room and dutchess Eleonora´s dressing room, bathroom, dutchess Eleonora´s bedroom, workroom, antechamber, dining room and return to the Castle Garden. Maximum time of the tour 60 minutes. Groups of maximum 7 people in the wheelchair + their assistants, altogether max 25 people. The tours will start in the Summer Riding Hall (in the Castle Garden, opposite the Castle Riding Hall). The tour beginings are at: 10.00, 11.00, 13.00, 14.00 and 15.00, break 12.00-13.00. The tour is not suitable for mobile beds.

Your registration will help us in preparation of the event and we will be able to improve the conditions of your visit and we will be able to plan the assistants´service more efficiently. During the event you can get information from the signposted organizators and assistants in the town and in the information tent on P1 car park - Jelení Garden, in Infocentrum on the square and in all places in the town where they will provide help. For the visitors there will be prepared low-rise bus from České Budějovice transport firm which will take the visitors from the railway station to the car park by the Castle Garden. On 10th September R 647 "Šumava" fast train in the destination from Prague to Volary will be extended by the carriage designed for the physically handicapped there will be 30 seats (5 sections each having 6 seats) + section for 6 wheel chaired people on wide seats, more wheel chairs can be placed in service section. The route Prague - Český Krumlov: departure Prague 6.17, Tábor 7.50, Č. Budějovice 9.05, arrival to Č. Krumlov at 9.52. The route Český Krumlov - Prague: departure Č. Krumlov 18.07, Č. Budějovice 18.56, Tábor 20.20, arrival to Prague 21.54. Tariff fare, ZTP, ZTP/P great discount, guide for ZTP/P free. It is also possible to go by Krumlov Taxi (Phone number: +420 380 712 712) who will offer discount for the registered visitors.

Our workers will try to procure the accomodation according to the requirements you have given them. We asked the accomodation providers to give us special offer for this event.
