Český Krumlov At Summer´s End

Even though summer holidays are over, Český Krumlov has still lots to offer!

Funs of white sport should not miss the first weekend in September. On Saturday September 5, Český Krumlov Centre will host the 13th Tennis Tournament in doubles. All years participants as well as newcomers are welcomed.

In the mid of the second week of September, tunes of jazz festival Jazzky Krumlov will be heard in the city. This alternative and jazz music festival presents mainly Czech performers (DVA, Mocca Malacco, Matěj Ruppert and others) along with Slovak and Hungarian musicians (David Kollar International Project).

Český Krumlov will greet disabled visitors on Saturday September 12. Every year the town does its best to make possible for disabled people to enjoy the magic of the old town and organizes the event " A Day without Barriers - A Day with disabilities". Although it is just for day, every year the organizers attempt to make Český Krumlov, the UNESCO protected town and its historical sites accessible to people with different disabilities. Under the assistance of volunteers and provisional ramps, the Route 2 at the Český Krumlov Castle, the Baroque theatre as well as other museums will be opened for visitors. Český Krumlov city tours for disabled will be part of the rich program too.

As every year, European Heritage Days will take place in Český Krumlov. "Historical sites under the time scale" is this year´s national topic of this event. You may accept invitation to Museum of History of Architecture and Crafts, Museum Fotoateliér Seidel or other sacral or civil historical sites, which are normally open to public only partially or under special occasions. The Český Krumlov State Castle and Chateau will open their depositories of Baroque theatre props, costumes and accessories plus former stables with Schwarzenberg lords historic carriage. Do not miss a unique chance to witness the town´s hidden nooks and join the accompanying program.

The weekend at end of the month will be full of folklor and dancing. St.Wenceslas Festival devoted to Saint Wenceslas, the patron of wine growers and brewers together with the International Folklor Festival comes up with an interesting program. Old crafts market, programs for children, St.Wenceslas night of open museums and galleries or St.Wenceslas ballooning. This is just few tips of what you can see and do during this special event. Visitors should not miss to taste St. Wenceslas traditional Czech food menus served in Český Krumlov restaurants or witness " Story of Český Krumlov " book launch, which will be one of the main events celebrating the 700th anniversary of the town existence.

Besides cultural and social events, there are many activities you may join e.g. guided tours or other special programs. In museums and galleries you can dive into arts, on the other hand, while visiting technical heritage sites, one will learn about graphite mining in the region, beer brewing or history of photography. Active visitors may enjoy horseback riding, golf or scooter fun ride down to Kleť hill.

Closing of the river rafting season in Vyšší Brod is not only for experienced canoists. It is a fun event held on September 5, the day, when the most peculiar boats you can imagine go down the Vltava river. Starting point is below the Lipno concrete dam. Vessels of the most unusual designs one can imagine leave for their journey down the river at 13:27. Spectators may follow this special cruise through its way from Vyšší Brod down to Herbertov and Rožmberk nad Vltavou.

Classic music lovers will certainly enjoy concerts of Royal Music Fetival (Královský hudební festival) in Zlatá Koruna monastery, which is one of the most preserved former cistercian monasteries in the Czech Republic. For example the concert devoted to Jaroslav Krček, organ recital by Jana Havlíčková or the concert "Music crisscrosses the cloister". On September 28, the festival ends with a concert devoted to St.Wenceslas.

While exploring the Český Krumlov region, remember to visit Rožmberk castle where you can encounter with Rožmberk lord Petr Vok and romance of old times. Follow the roots of medieval clerical orders and visit monasteries of Zlatá Koruna and Vyšší Brod.
