Come to Český Krumlov before autumn colored leaves are all gone!
The start of October comes with Festival of Baroque Art. Chamber music cantatas and duets by one of the greatest master of Baroque music will be played at the opening concert of this festival devoted to the 250 anniversary of G. F. Händel decease. This festival also presents documentary film Argippo reborn and Baroque opera La morte d´Ercole – Nicoló Porpora. Modern age world premiere of a scenic performance of serenata, which was first time performed in 1711 in Napels to celebrate the coronation of the Monarch Charles IV, is a promise of a unique experience. Concilium Musicum Wien and matinee with the 18th century music will be the closing concert of this Festival.
Another October’s event is the International Environmental and Natural and Cultural Heritage Film Festival EKOFILM. This year’s main topic of the Festival is the climate change and related issues. More than 225 films, which is the greatest number of films ever presented, made in 40 countries, are listed for the competition. The Czech Republic presents 69 films. Apart from competition films, there will be projections of other interesting films plus workshops, meetings, concerts and exhibitions held during the Festival. Friday October 9 and Saturday October 10 bring an exciting program: Theatre performance Čtyři dohody, aneb láska – vztahy – přátelství (Four agreements or love and friendship with Jaroslav Dušek, Zdeněk Konopásek and Pjér La Šéz.
As every year, the event devoted to Czech movie makers after 30 years is part of the Festival’s program. This time it is held at J&K cinema. Theatre Club Ántré comes up with concerts of Swetja a spol. and Neřež. All events held within EKOFILM are admission free except theatre performances.
Culture and social life in Český Krumlov is thrilling thanks to excellent theatre performances held in Town Theatre: Praha stověžatá (Prague of Hundred Towers) - Studio Ypsilon Prague, Mrchy (Bitches) – Intimate Theatre of Dáša Bláhová, Prague, Blboun (Le Dindon) – Theatre Na Fidlovačce and other. Theatre Club Ántré and their new program called Music Cellars bring the legends of Czech folk and song maker scene. In October it will be Jan Matěj Rak concert. On October 27, do not miss the concert of the Český Krumlov twinned town Llanwrtyd Wells. Besides many culture events, there are many museums and galleries to visit in Český Krumlov. You may also like to join daily guided tours and explore the old town while accompanied by a local guide. October is the last month this year the Český Krumlov State Castle and Chateau, Gallery of Czech Culture and Graphite Mine are open to public. Why not to take this last chance!
As every year, the top of the canoeing season is the Český Krumlov Waterman Marathon held on October 10. There will be kayaks, canoes, rafts, flat boats taking part in this competition. Individual races start in Vyšší Brod, Rožmberk nad Vltavou and in campsite Na Pískárně. First boats are expected to reach Český Krumlov around 1 pm. Prize award ceremony will be held in Eggenberg Brewery garden and after the concerts of Tři sestry revival banda and Akia, b.a. will end this special day. All day long there will be lots to do and enjoy in Eggenberg Brewery garden - games, painting, competitions and theatre.
First weekend in October brings sporting activities to Český Krumlov – National Youth Competition in karate and fire fighters competition Český Krumlov Cup.
For sport fun there are many sport facilities and activities to enjoy. Be active and go for your favorite sporting activity – tennis, squash, golf, swimming, cycling, horseback riding, scooters, four – wheelers, bowling or ten-pins.
Colorful sceneries are here again! Take a walk in Český Krumlov surroundings and admire the autumn’s beauty. Climb the highest peak of Blanský les, the Kleť hill or visit the ruins of old castles Dívčí Kámen and Vítkův hrádek. Rožmberk castle and Zlatá Koruna monastery are open to visitor till the end of October.
