The autumn season in Egon Schiele Art Center will be dedicated to talented artists with a tragic fate and Egon Schiele contemporaries.

This gallery is named after one of remarkable artists of the 20th century and offers 3000 sq. m. of exhibition space. Until the end of January next year you can view here works by Hermann Stenner, Jindřich Prucha or Zdeněk Rykr.

Hermann Stenner was born in 1891 and died in 1914. Similar to Egon Schiele (1890-1918), he is on of the most extraordinary artists of the 20th century, despite his life being cut short prematurely, in his case on the battlefield of the 1st World War. Although his creative period spans over just five years, his convincing work is relatively large. 200 works of art were gathered for the artist’s first exhibition in the Czech Republic. Oil paintings and paper drawings demonstrate the artist’s impressionist beginnings and a gradual development to a more expressive painting style with a strong line and rich colours.

Another artist whose artworks are now on view in the Egon Schiele Art Center gallery is Jindřich Prucha. He had been studying the Czech and German languages on the Prague Philosophical Faculty since 1905 and attending the private painting school of Ludvík Vacátko in the years 1907 to 1908. In 1908 he had been accepted to the creative artists’ society Mánes as an associate member and since 1911 he had been attending an academy in Munich lead by Ludwig Herterich. During this time he exhibited his artworks together with the Mánes society in Vienna and become their regular member. From the autumn of 1912 he began studying drawing techniques at the Technical Univerity of Prague under Adolf Liebscher but already in the beginning of 1913 he decided to focus just on painting and returned to live with his parents and sister in Železné hory.

He entered the armed forces after the mobilization and has been sent to the Galician front, being killed near the Komarovo village on 1 September 1914. He was not yet 28 years old.

Egon Schiele Art Center gallery organizes not just seasonal exhibitions but also a regular exhibition of selected artworks by the painer Egon Schiele. His artistic creations were significantly influenced by Český Krumlov.
