>From Friday 16th June till Sunday 18th June the town of Český Krumlov was hosting the Celebrations of the Rose. Not only Krumlov cilizens, but also people fond of historical festivals from the whole world tried to revive the Renaissance and bring back Český Krumlov to the year 1589. Although the main program occured on the main town square and its close vicinity, the visitors could find other places suitable for historical merrymaking in the broad surroundings of the town centre. The celebrations were spreaded into other parts of the town also because of the ever growing number of festival visitors. During the jubilee 20th year of the celebrations 22 000 tickets were sold.
The main attractions of this year´s festival were the festive procession in historical costumes and the ceremony on the main town square, the knightly Tournament of Roses where the delegates of the towns who have the five-petalled rose in their coat of arms fought. On Saturday the 2005 Český Krumlov Prizes for the contribution to the town development were awarded. PhDr. Eva Davidová, CSc., Medvíďata Choir and the Český Krumlov Development Fund were awarded. At midnight the festive fireworks installed on the southern castle terraces lit up the sky above the town.
On Sunday afternoon the two historical alchemists,John Dee and Edward Gottfried competed in live chess game in front of the Revolving Auditorium. Live chess game is one of the festival´s unique performances. This year´s novelty was the introduction of the historical hostelry in performance ring in Brewery Gardens for the visitors to rest their weary bodies. The total number of the performers in historical costumes and in the ceremonies went beyond 600.
