Five-petalled Rose Celebrations 2012

The town of Český Krumlov will soon dress into its most fetching medieval cloak. It will happen on 22 - 24 June on the 26th popular and well-known Five-petalled Rose Celebrations in Český Krumlov.

Visitors can again view the historical procession, watch live chess and concerts. Visitors of all age groups will enjoy themselves. The celebratory atmosphere will be enhanced by experience-filled stroll through the town and performances by artists of many genres. There will also be festive fireworks and historical marketplace with a rich schedule of events.

Last year it was Petr Vok as protector of Southern Bohemia against the Passau troops who took centre stage. This year the Celebrations will present the Last Rosenbergs in the wider Renaissance European context. The event will also demonstrate ethical values, philosophy and outlook on life of a Renaissance man. A contrast of two different life mottos will be a big topic of this year's Celebrations: FESTINA LENTE (William of Rosenberg) versus MEMENTO MORI (Petr Vok).

On Friday you can spend a pleasant afternoon in the Eggenberg Brewery gardens. Children and adults may test their skills, wit and fitness levels during historical games. Mothers looking for calm and relaxation can visit Mimibar in the Monastery gardens. A historical folk merry making U Petrova Voka on Svornosti Square will provide entertainment and good food. There will also be the impressive fire procession through the town at 10.00 pm or performance by the band Papouškovo sirotci at 10.15 pm on the Square.

The main costume procession will pass Svornosti Square on Saturday at 3 pm and will gather at 4 pm in the Brewery Gardens to watch a performance worth the rulers - Live Chess. Visitors can also look forward to evening concerts by the bands Javory, Quanti Minoris and Krless. The programme at the Brewery Gardens will culminate by premiere "Live Chess with Fire - Festina Lente / Memento Mori". Festive fireworks accompanied by Bedřich Smetana´s symphonic poem Vltava will symbolically conclude the Celebrations. Visitors still in the mood for more can continue in local pubs, clubs or town corners and listen to street musical performances.
