Baroque Arts Festival is Set to Please Opera Lovers

Baroque Arts Festival will return to Český Krumlov for the fifth time from 15 to 23 September. On an annual basis this Festival introduces music by Baroque in authentic setting of the town and Castle of Český Krumlov.

The Festival brings several novelties this year. One is a festive concert taking place on Saturday 15 September in the Masque Hall of the Castle to commemorate the 20th anniversary of listing Český Krumlov in the UNESCO World Heritage List and 290th birth and 230th death anniversary of Duke Josef Adam of Schwarzenberg. The Baroque music ensemble Hof-Musici under the conductor Ondřej Macek will perform a newly re-discovered tribute cantata which was written in the 30´s of the 18th century to celebrate the birthday of Josef Adam of Schwarzenberg. The Duke is credited with giving the town its Baroque features including the decoration of the Masque Hall.

Another important event of the Festival as well as a truly artistic experience will be the modern age world premiere of "Enea in Caonia (Aeneas in Caonia)" by one of the most famous opera composers of 18th century, Johann Adolf Hass. This opera is based on an episode from Vergilius´ Aeneis and was first performed in 1727 in Naples. Now it will be performed three times in the unique Baroque Castle theatre - on Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September.

Authentic experience is also guaranteed during the Friday Austrian spiritual music concert of 17th century or Saturday matinee with chamber music of high Baroque period in the renovated Egon Schiele Art Center gallery. On Saturday evening the Festival will move to the Vlašský dvůr for the cembalo recital. On the same evening the Festival will culminate with a unique show - Baroque fireworks and festive Baroque illumination in the Castle gardens.

On Sunday you can attend the Sunday matinee organ recital offering music of Italian and Austrian Baroque period performed on a unique instrument by Nicolaus Christeindel and Bernhard Wollers from 1682. The Festival will be concluded on Sunday 23 September by the brass quintet concert of Vienna classicist period on period instruments.

Carry yourselves over to the Baroque period and enjoy the Baroque music atmosphere performed on period instruments and attend the modern age Baroque opera.
