New Exhibitions in the Egon Schiele Art Center
A number of individual exhibitions under the umbrella title HUMOR IN ARTS will open the new season in the Egon Schiele Art Center. Exhibitions will feature both European classics and young artists.
Contemporary art has been reflecting the times we live in with an increasing frequency. It takes notice and sometimes even evaluates various social and political problems. This is the topic of a number of exhibitions in 2012 which will certainly capture wide audience interest. The exhibitions will be entertaining and funny.
A self-standing exhibition will present the work of Gerald Scarfe, and English caricaturist and illustrator born in 1936 in London. He became well-known for his Sunday Times contributions and illustrations for the New Yorker. He has also worked on films (such as Walt Disney's Hercules). He has also worked for the rock band Pink Floyd having creative input into The Wall project. He has created caricatures for the soap operas Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. He wrote and shot a number of films for the BBC. In 2008 he has received the title Commander of the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II.
Another artist representing the Humor in Arts theme in the Egon Schiele Art Center will be the young Austrian Josef Florian Krichbaum born in 1974. His work presents a charming as well as ironic peek into the depths of human soul. The paintings are filled with fantasy and a sense of detail. Krichbaum is representing figurative painting style, fantastic realism and surrealism.
Works by two very interesting Czech personalities will also contribute towards the Humor in Arts theme. First on is Jiří Slíva whose humor is reflected in the paradoxes of everyday life - cafés, wine, music etc. The exhibition will display around 100 paintings and prints.
Another representative of the Czech scene will be Vladimír Jiránek, caricaturist, illustrator, draftsman, screenwriter and director of animated films. His works include reflections on political and social topics of present time.
